Learning more about the protagonist of Class NC

Third generation, Mk3, Mazda MX-5s were first manufactured in 2005 and can be recognised by their NC chassis code. The NC was an immediate success, winning awards and generating significant early interest. It followed the same fundamental principles as both its predecessors, but with some noticeable stylistic changes. For example, it was the first MX-5 generation to feature a retractable hardtop variant and made strong resemblance to Mazda’s 2003 concept car – the Ibuki.

More powerful than its previous incarnations, the Mk3 MX-5 is available as both 1.8 and 2.0-litre models. Despite being heavier on the scales, the increase in power ensures that the MX-5 (NC) is one of the most enjoyable cars to pilot and an excellent machine to drive on both the track and road. It’s hardly surprising the front mid-engine, rear-wheel drive vehicle has become an extremely popular choice within the MSVT Racing paddock.

Now, with the creation of Miata Trophy, Mk3 Mazda MX-5s will battle for overall and NC class glory in a highly-competitive single-make MX-5 championship.
