Paul O’Neill to race with Miata Trophy at Donington Park

19 June 2024

British Touring Car Championship race winner and TV presenter Paul O’Neill will make his Miata Trophy debut at Donington Park later this month (Saturday June 29).

O’Neill’s extensive racing career has seen him compete across a number of prestigious championships with notable success, including race wins in both BTCC and British GT. The Cheshire-born driver will be looking to utilise all this skill and knowledge amassed through previous racing endeavours to hit the ground running when he gets behind the wheel of a Miller Motorsport NC Class Mazda MX-5.

Further success has been found off the circuit too, with O’Neill forming a key part of ITV4’s presentation of the BTCC championship he competed in for many years. A household name for motorsport enthusiasts from both his work on the track and on screen, O’Neill will surely cause a stir when he takes on Miata Trophy’s Donington Park meeting.

O’Neill said this about his Miata Trophy debut:

“I’m really looking forward to racing with Miata Trophy at Donington Park. Single-make racing puts the emphasis firmly on driver skill and it’s going to be exciting to race against the championship regulars. While there’s always going to be a competitive element, the main thing for me will be to enjoy the opportunity of racing wheel-to-wheel in the Miller Motorsport MX-5.”

MSVT Championships Manager Stuart Garland commented:

“We’re delighted to welcome Paul O’Neill to the Miata Trophy grid. He obviously brings a wealth of both prestige and experience and we’re looking forward to seeing that translate first-hand to the circuit. We hope that Paul enjoys joining what is a very talented crop of drivers and has a great day of racing at Donington Park.”

Awaiting O’Neill is a competitive day of motorsport, with a morning qualifying session preceding two twenty-minute sprint races. If O’Neill is amongst the five quickest qualifiers, he will take part in the exhilarating SuperPole – a one-lap shootout for the front of the grid in the day’s first race. The starting grid for Race Two is decided by the finishing order of Race One.
